Chief Photographer – CBS Colorado Join CBS Colorado’s newsroom as a Chief Photographer. You will lead a team of photographers, editors, and MMJs, and be responsible for creating compelling visual stories across our TV and digital platforms.
Responsibilities Lead and coach team of photographers, editors and MMJs.
Develop visually appealing and meaningful storytelling, integrating audio and lighting.
Collaborate with managers, assignment desk, producers, and reporters to cover weather, breaking news, special projects, and general assignments across TV and digital platforms.
Set a high standard for visual storytelling and dynamic live shots, training and mentoring staff.
Provide ongoing feedback to photographers and editors, including one‑on‑one story critiques.
Create best‑in‑class social media and digital assets.
Assist in logistics and planning for remote and station events.
Uphold journalistic, ethical, and professional standards consistent with company policies and values.
Manage scheduling and timesheets for photographers and editors.
Collaborate with managers on equipment purchases, fleet management, and repairs.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the News Director.
Required Qualifications Strong communication, organizational, and management skills.
Proficiency with cinematic cameras, DSLR digital camera systems, drones, and non‑linear editing platforms, with ability to train staff.
Physical ability to carry, shoulder, and shoot a broadcast ENG camera (25 lbs or more) and supportive equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot, problem‑solve, and remain calm under pressure and tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse staff.
Availability to work any shift in a 24/7 newsroom, including weekends and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in a medium or large market.
Salary Hiring Salary Range: $83,000.00 – 93,000.00. (New York, California, Colorado, Washington, and most other geographies.)
