Interim Revenue Cycle & Accounting Director
Position Overview
The Interim Revenue Cycle & Accounting Director is a hands-on operational leader responsible for stabilizing revenue cycle workflows, executing core accounting functions, and supporting staff across billing, clinical, and finance teams. This role requires deep familiarity with Netsmart Avatar, strong accounting fundamentals, and the ability to guide teams through change while ensuring claims, billing, and financial processes run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities & Time Allocation
50% — Revenue Cycle Operations (Avatar)
Work extensively in Netsmart Avatar, ensuring claims are submitted accurately, and billing workflows are executed correctly.
Oversee revenue cycle processes including claim submission, payment posting, aging review, and investigation of unpaid items.
Collaborate closely with staff working in Avatar to troubleshoot issues and ensure timely resolution.
Apply understanding of billing codes, Medicaid requirements, and payer workflows to maintain revenue integrity.
25% — Accounting & Month-End Close
Prepare journal entries, perform reconciliations, and support month-end close activities.
Pull Power BI dashboard reports, set parameters, export data, and manipulate information in Excel (pivot tables, lookups) to generate accounting entries.
Upload journal entries into NetSuite and ensure accuracy across financial reporting.
Engage in blocking-and-tackling accounting work, rolling up sleeves to support daily operational needs.
25% — Cross-Functional Support & Issue Resolution
Serve as a resource for billing, clinical, and administrative staff, answering operational questions and clarifying processes.
Provide leadership support to teams navigating system changes and workflow adjustments.
Assist with process troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and communication across departments.
Minimum Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Netsmart Avatar, Netsuite, and healthcare billing systems.
Strong accounting background, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels, receive input, and provide leadership support.
Effective communication skills and comfort working with billing, insurance, and clinical teams.
Experience with claims submission, payment posting, aging analysis, and investigating unpaid claims.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial payer experience.
Background in nonprofit healthcare or CPA credential.
Experience leading process improvements or operational enhancements.
Tools & Technical Skills
Excel: Pivot tables, basic data manipulation, lookup formulas.
Power BI: Running pre-programmed dashboards and exporting data.
Systems: Netsmart Avatar (primary), NetSuite (accounting).
