Overview
The Yard Jockey is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers and containers within the facility's yard to support warehouse operations. This role ensures the timely positioning of trailers for loading and unloading, maintains compliance with all safety regulations, and contributes to the smooth flow of inbound and outbound freight in a temperature-controlled environment.
Description
Key Responsibilities:
Move, position, and secure trailers within the yard using a yard truck/hostler.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment to ensure safe operation.
Communicate with warehouse staff, shipping/receiving teams, and drivers to coordinate trailer movements.
Verify trailer placement against dock schedules and adjust as necessary to meet operational needs.
Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and movement activities.
Monitor yard conditions, reporting hazards, damage, or safety concerns to management.
Ensure compliance with facility safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and DOT requirements.
Assist in securing and sealing trailers as directed.
Perform basic maintenance tasks on yard equipment, such as fueling and checking fluid levels.
Support warehouse or maintenance teams with additional tasks as assigned.
Work Hours: Shift start and stop times are determined by our customers.
Wednesday 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Thursday - Friday 6:00 am - 6:00 pm and Saturday 5:00 am - 5:00 pm
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
Frequent walking, bending, and climbing in and out of yard trucks.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Tolerance for working outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Ability to work in proximity to refrigerated areas with temperatures ranging from -10F to 40F.
