Overview
We are seeking a
Senior Plumbing Engineer
to take a
lead technical role on complex building projects across the Chicago market , with a strong focus on
healthcare, commercial, high-rise, and institutional design .
This is a
true engineering ownership role , not a production support position. You will be responsible for leading plumbing system design from concept through construction while serving as a key technical resource within a multidisciplinary MEP team.
The ideal candidate is confident making design decisions, coordinating across disciplines, and delivering fully engineered plumbing systems on complex projects.
️ What You’ll Do
Lead plumbing system design from concept through construction documentation
Design and size full building plumbing systems including:
Domestic water systems (cold/hot water, recirculation, booster systems)
Sanitary waste and vent systems
Storm drainage systems (including multi-story/high-rise applications)
Natural gas systems (as applicable)
Develop complete construction document packages (plans, risers, schedules, and specifications)
Perform engineering calculations and system sizing to ensure code compliance and efficiency
Serve as
lead plumbing engineer on assigned projects
Coordinate directly with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection teams
Lead resolution of design and coordination issues across disciplines
Participate in client meetings and represent plumbing scope in design discussions
Support construction administration including RFIs, submittals, and field coordination
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal QA/QC standards
Support BIM coordination using
Revit and Navisworks workflows
What We’re Looking For
7–15+ years of plumbing design experience in consulting engineering
Strong background in
healthcare, commercial, high-rise, or institutional projects
Proven ability to independently lead plumbing design scope
Strong knowledge of plumbing codes (IPC, Illinois amendments, NFPA where applicable)
Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary construction documents
Strong communication skills with clients, contractors, and internal teams
Ability to manage multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment
⭐ Preferred Experience
PE license (or actively pursuing licensure)
CPD certification
Healthcare project experience (hospitals, outpatient, surgical centers)
High-rise residential or mixed-use project experience
Experience in large consulting environments

Compensation
$140,000 – $185,000 base salary (DOE)
