Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
We are looking for a vehicle technician with extensive automotive background who can support the Client’s EMC Team with a focus on Testing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and general support. The emphasis is on electrical systems, wire harnesses, and system-level software of Client’s vehicles rather than traditional mechanical repair. In addition to supporting vehicle troubleshooting, become familiar with EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) testing and support staging and execution of EMC tests as well as maintenance of EMC test lab.
• Proficient with hand tools and electrical test equipment (multimeters, continuity testers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.).
• Proficient with wire harness assembly and modification.
Experience using diagnostic, logging, flashing, or network analysis tools to troubleshoot hardware and software systems (E.g., CANalyzer, OBD-II, DOPI, Data acquisition)
• Ability to read and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and technical procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
• Experience working in a lab environment, including tool and inventory management.
• Eager to learn and be a Team player
Pluses:
• Experience working with battery electric vehicles and understand their electrical architecture
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, or Ethernet.
• Experience working with autonomous vehicle HW (i.e.., cameras, Radar, Lidar, High speed compute)
• Familiarity with Linux, shell, python
• Familiarity with EMC concepts and testing.
• Proficiency in soldering (harness repair and/or PCB components).
Roles & Responsibilities
• Create the “Stuff” that enables EMC testing/debugging of both vehicle and module hardware. Including but not limited to: modifying/creating harnesses, creating assembling fixtures, soldering.
• With training, help to bring up and stage vehicles or component setups to conduct EMC testing. Follow SOPs to support or independently carry out tests/verifications. Capture, escalate, & diagnose HW & SW issues encountered during these activities.
• Read, interpret, and troubleshoot wire harnesses, wiring diagrams, schematics, and pinouts.
• Use OEM or Waymo proprietary SW tools to read diagnostics, logs, and system status and support root cause analysis.
• Support with issue resolution in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
