
Mechanical Design Engineer (San Antonio)

JD : Mechanical Design & Development
Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to gather, analyze, and define requirements for continuous improvement and new engineering initiatives.
Design and develop
3D CAD models, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
using
AutoCAD and UG NX
in accordance with automotive standards.
Lead
tool design activities , including
Jigs & Fixtures, Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), workstations, gauges, and assembly aids .
Conceptualize, design, and execute
complete assembly lines , from process layout planning to detailed manufacturing drawings.
Drive the
entire project lifecycle , from initial concept development, feasibility studies, and design reviews to final release for manufacturing.
Support
prototyping, validation, testing, and installation
of designed tools, equipment, and engineering solutions.
Coordinate with
local vendors and suppliers
for manufacturing, vendor drawings review, technical clarification, cost optimization, and trial support.
Work closely with
manufacturing, quality, production, and maintenance teams
to ensure designs meet functionality, safety, ergonomics, and productivity requirements.
Lead and prioritize
small to large-scale engineering projects , ensuring on-time delivery, adherence to budget, and compliance with quality standards.
Perform
DFMEA, PFMEA, and design risk assessments
to ensure robust and reliable engineering solutions.
Conduct design reviews, incorporate feedback, and implement design improvements for cost reduction, cycle time optimization, and ease of manufacturing.
Ensure all designs comply with
automotive standards, safety norms, and internal engineering guidelines .
Prepare and maintain complete design documentation, BOMs, change requests (ECNs), and revision control.
Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and support teams when required.
Participate in
line balancing, layout optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
such as lean manufacturing and automation enhancements.
Coordination & Communication
• Act as the primary liaison between client teams and offshore engineering resources.
• Provide weekly progress updates, documentation, and status reports.
• Ensure seamless communication to align design, manufacturing, and project milestones.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years of experience in mechanical design, tool design, or product development.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, UG NX,
• Experience in tooling, fixtures, jigs, and mechanical assemblies.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience collaborating with vendors and supporting design-to-manufacturing processes.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
