Houston, TX (Hybrid)
Energy Infrastructure | Natural Gas | Power Markets | Asset Optimization
The Firm
A fast-growing, private equity-backed power platform is seeking a Commercial Analytics Analyst to support the optimization and performance of a rapidly expanding portfolio of U.S. power generation assets.
The Role
This role sits at the intersection of wholesale power markets, natural gas fundamentals, and asset-level commercial decision-making. The team is building from the ground up, offering meaningful exposure across portfolio optimization, acquisitions support, and redevelopment strategy (including storage and data center-related opportunities).
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, analytics-driven role supporting day-to-day commercial decision-making across operating assets, including:
Supporting dispatch and bidding analytics in U.S. wholesale power markets
Analyzing natural gas fundamentals including basis, transport, nominations, and delivered fuel costs
Performing settlements validation and performance reconciliations
Building and enhancing commercial tools (Excel-based) for tracking positions, exposures, and unit economics
Monitoring market fundamentals (LMPs, congestion, heat rates, DA/RT spreads, ancillary services, capacity constructs)
Supporting scenario analysis for asset planning, acquisitions, and redevelopment initiatives
Working with large datasets using Excel and SQL/Python to automate analysis and improve decision-making
Producing weekly and monthly performance reporting highlighting key drivers and commercial implications
The role offers exposure across merchant generation, capacity markets, environmental products, and portfolio optimization — within a lean, collaborative team environment.
Ideal Background
3–8 years of experience in U.S. power and/or natural gas markets
Experience in generation dispatch, fuel supply analytics, real-time/EMA desks, or commercial operations
Strong understanding of wholesale market structure and pricing drivers
Experience working with or supporting natural gas–fired generation preferred
Advanced Excel required; exposure to SQL/Python/BI tools is a plus
Experience in PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE or other U.S. ISOs/RTOs preferred
Ability to operate independently and make data-driven commercial recommendations
Why This Role?
Ground-floor opportunity within a rapidly scaling IPP platform
Direct exposure to senior leadership and portfolio-level decision-making
Broad exposure across operating assets, acquisitions, and redevelopment strategy
Long-term growth trajectory as the platform expands
