Drone Engineer (UAS Systems Engineer) – Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled
Drone Engineer
to design, develop, test, and maintain unmanned aerial surveillance (UAS) systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in aeronautics, embedded systems, flight control, and autonomous technologies. This role involves working on advanced drone platforms for commercial, industrial, defense, or research applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop UAS/drone systems including airframes, propulsion, and avionics
Develop and integrate flight control systems and autopilot software
Program embedded systems and microcontrollers (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot platforms)
Implement navigation, GPS, IMU, and sensor integration
Develop autonomous flight algorithms and obstacle avoidance systems
Conduct flight testing, troubleshooting, and performance analysis
Ensure compliance with aviation regulations and safety standards
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams
Maintain documentation for system design, testing, and certification
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
3+ years of experience in UAV/drone development
Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or ROS
Experience with flight controllers such as PX4 or ArduPilot
Knowledge of aerodynamics, control systems, and embedded systems
Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
Familiarity with communication protocols (MAVLink, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C)
Understanding of FAA or relevant aviation regulatory standards
Preferred Skills
Experience with computer vision and AI integration
Knowledge of SLAM, LiDAR, and real-time mapping systems
Familiarity with simulation tools (Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink)
Experience in swarm technology or multi-drone systems
Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing experience
Work Environment
Lab and field-testing environments
Occasional travel for field deployments and client demonstrations
Cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced R&D setting
