
System Engineer (Buffalo)

This is an on-site position in Buffalo, NY with local travel. No relocation offered, preference to local candidates.
Responsibilities:
Implement, configure, and support Microsoft technologies across server and client environments (Windows Server/Client, Active Directory, Microsoft 365/Exchange, SQL, RDS).
Own system administration for environments under management: monitoring, patching, backup/restore, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Design and document procedures, runbooks, and standards that enable the broader IT support staff to deliver consistently excellent service.
Troubleshoot and resolve escalations across compute, storage, networking, identity, messaging, and security stacks.
Coordinate with vendors (hardware, software, cloud/SaaS) to drive timely resolution and root‑cause analysis.
Support and maintain virtualization platforms (Hyper‑V, VMware) and RMM/automation tooling; contribute PowerShell and scriptable workflows.
Strengthen security posture—identity hardening, MFA, patch hygiene, baseline enforcement—and deploy/operate endpoint protection (e.g., S1/CrowdStrike) where applicable.
Manage hybrid identity and access controls via Microsoft Entra, enforce conditional access policies, and optimize Azure virtual workloads for performance and cost efficiency.
Participate in the on‑call rotation after 3 months.
Qualifications:
IT/System Engineering within a Microsoft‑focused environment.
Hands‑on experience with virtualization (Hyper‑V, VMware).
Proficiency with RMM/automation systems and scripting (PowerShell preferred).
Strong networking fundamentals (routing/switching, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, firewalls).
Demonstrated cybersecurity know‑how and operational discipline.
Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills; deadline‑driven, detail‑oriented, analytical, and collaborative.
