Inventory Specialist

Responsibilities

Executing, monitoring, and training inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including front end and pharmacy.

Supporting pharmacy inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns.

Championing On‑Shelf Availability and overseeing receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in‑store inventory processes. Validating and ensuring the accuracy of planograms.

Reviewing and coordinating the proper use of reports and system applications that impact the accuracy of front end and pharmacy on‑hand balances and pricing.

Executing and maintaining front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques, filing claims for warehouse and vendor overages, shortages, order errors or damaged goods including prescription drugs.

Opening and closing the store in the absence of store management, including systems start‑ups, cash handling, cashier responsibilities, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for the business day.

Engaging customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Acting as leader on duty as required to resolve customer issues and answer questions for a positive experience.

Modeling and sharing customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.

Executing and coaching team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes (receiving orders, creating and reviewing orders).

Scanning all deliveries while the vendor is on site, focusing on One Box receiving, and taking appropriate action for delivered, undelivered, or inaccurate orders.

Verifying all pharmacy shipments are posted for products physically received at the store under the supervision of the pharmacist‑in‑charge.

Completing On‑Shelf Availability (OSA) end‑to‑end process, including warehouse and direct store delivery for planogrammed departments, disposals, call‑ins, vendor returns, and scan‑outs/returns on all subscribed departments.

Completing pharmacy inventory activities (recalls, returns, damage salvage, excess inventory returns, interstore transfers) under the pharmacist‑in‑charge’s supervision and verifying posting of all pharmacy/prescription claims.

Executing all pricing activities, including price changes, markdowns, markdown deletes, daily price changes, accurate signage, and regulatory pricing tasks.

Supporting front end and pharmacy ordering by ordering expense items and monitoring manual orders to avoid excess.

Updating designated pull & quarantine items on‑hand and maintaining accurate inventory counts across basic departments, stockroom, and overstock locations.

Ensuring store compliance with state and local laws for regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages, tobacco).

Assisting in maintaining inventory records, including receiving/posting and filing invoices/receipts/return authorizations.

Preparing for and supporting physical inventory day activities, including sales floor, stockroom, and pharmacy preparation and auditing the third‑party team.

Maintaining clean and well‑merchandised counters and shelves.

Possessing knowledge of all store systems and equipment.

Assisting and coaching the store team on all package delivery activities and support for the Pickup Program.

When acting as leader on duty, registering all sales on the POS, managing scanning errors, price verifications, voids, customer refunds, cash drops to safe, and change requests.

Complying with all company policies and procedures and maintaining respectful relationships with coworkers.

Completing any additional activities and tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

Attending company‑based trainings and completing all e‑learning modules, including safety training requirements.

Obtaining and maintaining a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state.

Communications

Serving as liaison between management and non‑management team members by coaching and developing capabilities with inventory systems.

Communicating assigned tasks and reporting disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management when acting as leader on duty.

Basic Qualifications

Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).

Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

“Achieving expectations” rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the previous 12 months (internal candidates only).

Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi‑task and manage execution.

Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.

Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
