Position Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent leads the millwright and mechanical maintenance team in a mining environment. This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all process equipment, with a strong focus on minimizing downtime through preventative and predictive maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
Develop and execute weekly, monthly, and quarterly maintenance plans aligned with operational priorities
Supervise daily maintenance activities, ensuring work is safely executed and completed according to plan
Lead lineout meetings, assigning clear tasks and expectations to the team
Ensure all work is properly planned and scheduled, including labour, materials, services, and trade requirements
Coordinate with planners, stores, and external vendors to support efficient maintenance execution and component overhauls
Investigate equipment failures, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
Provide technical guidance to operations and trades on mechanical systems and equipment
Support training and development of maintenance personnel
Monitor and manage maintenance costs in line with budget targets
Maintain strict adherence to safety regulations, policies, and procedures
Liaise with contractors and service providers to ensure timely and quality service delivery
Qualifications
Certified trade background in a relevant mechanical discipline with post-trade supervisory experience (10+ years preferred)
Strong background in heavy industrial or mining environments
Deep knowledge of rotating and fixed plant equipment (especially mill-related systems)
Experience in maintenance planning and scheduling (with planner support)
Working knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance principles
Basic understanding of budgeting and cost control
Exposure to project management practices
Proficiency with ERP systems, MS Project, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels, including senior management and external vendors
Leadership style that is fair, firm, and promotes accountability
Demonstrated commitment to safety and compliance with site policies and procedures
Physical Demands
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.
Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
Able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically
