Operations Manager
Transdev is seeking a highly motivated and results‑driven Operations Manager to oversee daily transit operations in Lawrence, Kansas. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery while maintaining compliance with company policies, client expectations, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The Manager will support ADA and paratransit operations, manage scheduling and compliance functions, and drive performance to reduce service disruptions and liquidated damages.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive compensation package: minimum $56,000 – maximum $70,000

Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks

Sick days: 5 days

Holidays: 12 days (8 standard, 4 floating)

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily fixed‑route, paratransit, and charter operations to ensure service is delivered safely and on time.

Manage and support ADA and paratransit service operations, including day‑to‑day oversight of para service delivery.

Operate and manage paratransit scheduling and dispatch systems to ensure efficient routing and service reliability.

Assist with scheduling, data entry, reporting, and compliance tracking across operations.

Support dispatch, road supervisors, and operators to maintain operational excellence.

Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs), including on‑time performance, missed trips, ADA compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Proactively identify and implement strategies to reduce liquidated damages (LDs) and service failures.

Partner with the Assistant General Manager (AGM) and General Manager (GM) to support operational goals and performance‑improvement initiatives.

Ensure compliance with all safety policies, regulatory requirements, ADA standards, and company procedures.

Coordinate service changes, detours, and special event operations (e.g., university events, charters, and seasonal service adjustments).

Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.

Partner with maintenance to ensure vehicle availability meets service needs.

Support budgeting efforts and control operational costs, including overtime and non‑revenue hours.

Maintain strong relationships with clients, including municipal partners and university stakeholders.

Lead training initiatives and continuous‑improvement efforts for frontline staff.

Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in transportation, business, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in transit operations, logistics, or a related field.

Prior supervisory or management experience required.

Experience managing ADA/paratransit operations or demand‑response service strongly preferred.

Experience working in a union/CBA environment strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of transit operations, scheduling, dispatch, and compliance requirements.

Experience with paratransit or scheduling software (e.g., Trapeze or similar systems) preferred.

Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.

Ability to analyze data and make operational decisions in a fast‑paced environment.

Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions – 30% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.

Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.

Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.

Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
