Summary
The Physician Facility Pain Management - Opioid Safety - and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PMOP) Coordinator is assigned to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center located in Martinsburg West Virginia. The PMOP Coordinator supports the Facility Pain POC/Clinical Leads in the coordination of pain management, opioid safety, and prescription drug monitoring program-related initiatives and implementation of VHA and Joint Commission standards.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship – Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Residency Training – Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Accepted residencies include ACGME programs, AOA programs, or other programs followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.
Resident physicians currently enrolled in approved residency programs and who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not training licenses) and are not independent practitioners; they work under supervision with a defined scope of practice.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience – At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Pain Medicine Specialist after graduation from an ACGME‑accredited pain fellowship.
At least 3 years of experience in a multidisciplinary pain clinic setting.
Board certification in Addiction Medicine or related board certifications, and/or experience with buprenorphine and other medication‑assisted treatment modalities for opioid use disorder, will be considered.
Physical Requirements – The work is mostly sedentary but requires standing, bending, carrying light items, and standing/walking for prolonged periods to interact with patients and other services.
Duties
Manages acute and chronic medical conditions in an outpatient setting, including follow‑up care post‑treatment, consultation with other services as needed, and optimizing patient safety and quality.
Serves on the Interdisciplinary Pain Care Committee representing PACT.
Functions as a Pain and Opioid Safety subject‑matter expert during PACT case presentations and staff meetings.
Assists in compiling VISN, facility, site, and community pain resources that can assist PACT pain care management.
Works closely with Primary Care and specialty pain leadership to facilitate roadmap implementation.
Serves as a liaison to PACT for information around national initiatives and tools (Stepped Care for Opioid Use Disorder, Train the Trainer (SCOUTT) initiative, CARA mandates, opioid safety, and facility pain teams).
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
