Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include maintaining health records, assisting with the resident’s physical and psychological needs, administering basic health care, ensuring safety and infection control, providing personal care and support, aiding resident mobility, and preparing food. The NA also documents interactions, communicates changes in resident condition, collects specimens, performs housekeeping and laundry tasks, facilitates wellness programs, and may participate in committee work.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED preferred but not required.

Minimum age 16; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.

Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification; must obtain certification within four months of starting through a training program or endorsement, provided by the facility.

Completes yearly competency testing and maintains a record of at least 12 hours of continuing education annually.

State certification with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry, if applicable.

May be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver; requires valid driver’s license, vehicle report, and medical qualification to perform driving duties in accordance with Sanford Driving Policy.
