Position Summary
This position is a combo role between Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Unit Clerk, performing either role as needed. Responsibilities include compliance with The Joint Commission standards, CMS, OSHA, IDPH, and state regulations. As a CNA you will interact directly with patients, provide comfort, transport patients, monitor vital signs, assist with daily living needs, and support nurses in patient care. As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) you will provide clerical support, coordinate patient care across departments, and read basic telemetry monitoring.
CNA Position Qualifications
Education / Licensure or Credentials
Must have completed a Nursing Assistant Program and be certified in the state of Illinois.
Preferred
High School Diploma or GED; any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
CNA Position Skills / Experience / Competency
CPR certified.
Previous medical/surgical experience desirable.
Must demonstrate competency of skills designated by the Manager of Inpatient Services by written exam and/or demonstration.
Must have good communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to operate designated computer equipment.
Proactive in seeking out additional tasks when assignments are complete.
Accountable for own conduct and promotes good working relationships among staff and other disciplines.
Demonstrates ability to work accurately and effectively in oral and written directions and communication.
CNA Work Environment / Physical Demands
Work Environment: Enjoy working with people and cooperatively with other hospital staff. CNAs provide essential direct patient care, working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals in a fast‑paced environment. Tasks include assisting with activities of daily living, taking vital signs, and reporting changes in a patient’s condition. Exposure to patient care may lead to emotional exhaustion.
Physical Demands:
The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Requires long periods of standing at times.
Requires quick movement, agility, and fast response time.
Requires direct patient contact with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious disease.
Frequent repositioning of patients.
Ability to perform CPR, which is a strenuous activity.
Constant kneeling, stooping, bending, twisting, and occasional need to lift patients.

HUC Position Qualifications
Education / Licensure or Credentials Required
Must be a high‑school graduate or have successfully completed the GED.
BLS certified.
Successfully completes the basic arrhythmia class.
HUC Position Skills / Experience / Competency
Previous experience in a clerical or receptionist position helpful.
Hospital experience or satisfactory completion of a hospital training program preferred.
Must have good communication skills.
Accountable for own conduct and promotes good working relationships among staff and other disciplines.
Computer competent and able to troubleshoot system problems.
Demonstrates ability to work accurately and effectively with oral and written directions and communication.
HUC Work Environment / Physical Demands
Work Environment: Work in administrative settings, often at a desk within a patient care unit or ward, interacting with medical staff, patients, and visitors. This environment can be fast‑paced and sometimes stressful, requiring strong organizational and time‑management skills while working cooperatively with hospital staff.
Physical Demands:
The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job.
Requires quick movement, agility, and fast response time.
Requires direct patient contact with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious disease.
