Senior Performance Analysis Engineer
Lockheed Martin, Englewood, CO, United States
Overview
The Performance‑Analysis Engineer will own and lead performance‑modeling work‑packages for advanced aerospace and defense systems. The role focuses on developing high‑fidelity analytical and simulation models that predict mechanical‑system performance (e.g., propulsion, launch vehicle dynamics, thermal‑mechanical interaction) throughout the product lifecycle. The engineer will provide technical guidance to junior analysts, interface with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure that performance predictions meet program requirements and schedule milestones.
Responsibilities
Performance Modeling & Simulation
Build and validate physics‑based performance models using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
Conduct steady‑state and transient performance analyses (thrust, torque, power, efficiency, burn‑rate, trajectory, vibration) for propulsion, actuation, and structural subsystems.
Integrate multi‑physics effects (thermal‑mechanical, fluid‑structure interaction) where required.
Design Integration & Trade Studies
Translate system‑level performance requirements into detailed analysis plans and load cases.
Perform trade studies that balance mass, power, durability, and mission‑profile constraints; present recommendations to program leadership.
Collaborate with structural, thermal, propulsion, and controls engineers to ensure consistent performance predictions across disciplines.
Verification & Validation
Define test‑article requirements, instrumentation, and test‑procedure development for performance ground‑tests and flight‑tests.
Compare test data to analytical predictions, calibrate models, and document correlation results.
Support certification and compliance with applicable MIL‑STD and program standards.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
Own one or more performance‑analysis work‑packages from concept through release.
Review and provide feedback on junior analysts’ models, assumptions, and deliverables.
Conduct training sessions and lessons‑learned briefings for the performance‑analysis team.
Documentation & Reporting
Produce clear, concise analysis reports, performance briefs, and risk‑mitigation packages in accordance with LMRP standards.
Maintain configuration‑controlled model libraries, scripts, and analysis templates.
Present findings at design reviews (PDR, CDR, DDR) and program status meetings.
Continuous Improvement
Evaluate emerging performance‑analysis methods, software updates, and industry best practices.
Contribute to internal technical standards, best‑practice databases, and knowledge‑share forums.
