Job Title
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – PPEC
Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center provides skilled nursing care to medically fragile and/or technology-dependent children in a non-residential daycare setting. The LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician to ensure safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients with complex medical needs
Monitor vital signs, assess patient conditions, and report changes promptly
Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed
Manage medical equipment such as feeding tubes, ventilators, oxygen, and tracheostomies
Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, bathing, and mobility
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
Follow individualized care plans and physician orders
Ensure infection control and safety protocols are followed
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding the child’s care and progress
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (RNs, therapists, physicians)
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies
Qualifications:
Current, active LPN license in the state of employment
Current CPR/BLS certification (PALS preferred)
Experience in pediatric, home health, or long-term care preferred
Knowledge of pediatric medical conditions and equipment
Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills
Work Environment:
Pediatric daycare-style medical facility (PPEC)
Fast-paced, team-oriented setting
Requires standing, lifting, and assisting children with mobility needs
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transfer pediatric patients
Prolonged standing, walking, and bending
Manual dexterity for handling medical equipment
Additional Skills:
Compassion and patience when working with children and families
Attention to detail and strong documentation skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize care effectively
