Job Description
Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7a-7p

Responsibilities

Greeting patients with a smile, answering the phone, entering information into the electronic health record, database, and performing general clerical duties.

Consistently maintaining a pleasant, professional demeanor and making patients feel welcome.

Managing multi‑tasking effectively.

Performing registration functions including updating demographics, verifying insurance, collecting point‑of‑service payments, and documenting registration information within an electronic system.

Confirming accurate information for billing and completing visit‑closure activities.

Providing the highest level of customer service to patients/families during registration interactions and assisting with way‑finding.

Checking patients in and out.

Collecting payment and performing follow‑up activities necessary for patient care.

Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits using the electronic verification system or by contacting payer directly and collecting copayments, coinsurance, deductibles.

Assisting staff and patients with clerical duties, including copying, scanning, and faxing documents.

Creating and maintaining patient files.

Answering and screening phone calls, directing to the appropriate individual, and taking messages as needed.

Providing callers with company information such as address, directions, fax number, website.

Confirming all paperwork is correctly filled out.

Maintaining the front desk, waiting‑room area, and children’s play area to be clean and presentable.

Performing housekeeping‑like duties such as emptying trash, vacuuming, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.

Encouraging a friendly and respectful work environment.

Delivering a customer‑focused, reassuring open environment that encourages patients to return to our ED/UCs.

Following all HIPAA policies and procedures.

Following all company policies.

Qualifications

Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.

Flexibility.

Effective communication skills.

Collaboration skills.

Patient/Client focus.

Technical capacity.

Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum of 6 months of work experience in a healthcare setting or one year of customer service background.

Basic understanding of insurance.

Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS).

Exceptional communication and customer service skills.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to present information to patients and other employees.

Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

Ability to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems in standardized situations.

Ability to work independently, self‑directed, and with diverse individuals.

Analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to manage conflict and seek supervisor help when needed.

Daily focus on attaining productivity standards.

Attend staff meetings and huddles as required.

Minimum of 1 year experience in medical office setting.

Familiar with health insurance and insurance verification.

Knowledge of general office equipment (telephones, photocopiers, scanners, credit‑card machine, fax).

Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize demands.

Solid work history.

Physical requirements: standing, walking, using hands, reaching, sitting, talking, listening; may lift up to 10 pounds; no special vision requirements.

Work in a healthcare setting with exposure to contagious illnesses; moderate noise exposure; use of office equipment.

Non‑exempt; scheduled based on operational need.

Work Environment

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Non‑exempt. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
