TENN

by Aaron Scully
Directed by C.J. Langdon
Tennessee Williams reflects on the moments that led to the opening of “The Glass Menagerie” on Broadway – the night that changed his life, and the lives of those that worked with him, forever. The play is a celebration of artistic collaboration and what can happen when a group of people truly believe in a piece of art.
Show dates are July 31 and August 1, 2, 7, 8 & 9 at the Kranzberg Black Box Theater
6 roles:
TENNESSEE “TENN” WILLIAMS: Male-identifying, 30-50s. The playwright and restless poet on the precipice of fame. He is a cocktail of Southern charm, acute sensitivity, and deep-seated insecurity. A specific, authentic Southern Accent is required.
AUDREY WOOD: Female-identifying, 30s–40s. Tennessee’s literary agent and advocate. She is a woman of quiet, steady conviction and immense patience, acting as the bridge between Tennessee’s delicate artistry and the harsh realities of Broadway.
LAURETTE TAYLOR: Female-identifying, 40s–60s. A legendary stage actress attempting a comeback. She is eccentric, droll, and delightfully weathered by years of struggle, yet she possesses a “luminous” quality that is undeniable once she hits the light.
EDDIE DOWLING: Male-identifying, 40s–50s. The production’s director, producer, and leading actor. A quintessential theater professional who is used to wearing many hats. He is charismatic, hardworking, and occasionally overwhelmed by the task of wrangling “The Menagerie.” He possesses a Broadway veteran’s grit and a keen eye for what makes a show sell.
DONALD WINDHAM: Male-identifying, 20s–40s. A writer and Tennessee’s close confidant. He is sophisticated, observant, and intellectually grounded. He carries himself with a quiet, observant dignity and a wry sense of humor.
LOUIS SINGER: Male-identifying, 40s–60s. The financier and co-producer. Singer represents the “business” in show business. He is sturdy, direct, and focused on the bottom line. While he respects the art, he is the voice of reality regarding budgets, ticket sales, and the literal machinery of the theater.
Seal Skin

By Jack Bushnell
Directed by Drew Larson
The world’s foremost expert on pinnipeds (BEN) discovers a seal who has shed her skin and become human (RIMA). With an intense desire to study the selkie and learn about seals in ways he never dreamed possible, Ben holds her prisoner by keeping her skin so she cannot return to the sea, much to the distress of both Rima and Ben’s wife (JILLIAN).
Show dates are November 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, & 22 at the Kranzberg Black Box Theater
3 roles:
JILLIAN: 30ish; pretty in a down-to-earth way; clear-eyed about certain things; funny & vibrant; perhaps not always as confident as she would like to be.
BEN: Mid-to-late 30s; bearded; handsome; charismatic; energetic; a little scruffy and outdoorsy-looking in the manner of a field biologist.
RIMA: 20ish?; a selkie, or seal who has shed her skin to transform into a human; strikingly beautiful, but in a preternatural, unnerving, and unexpected way. Her way of speaking should be unusual too. Nudity (or simulated nudity) required.
