Research Funding Administrator
Position Summary: This is a senior managerial/professional role within the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and the Center for Molecular Medicine. The successful candidate will report to Center directors and supervise one or more grants specialists. Key duties include managing the Centers’ grant lifecycle from pre‑award stages through termination, acting as liaison between the Centers and the Office of Sponsored Projects and funding agencies, assisting faculty with proposal development and award administration, and representing the Centers’ research interests on institutional committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience

Certified Decentralized Limited Signature Authority (DLSA) Practitioner designation (Phase III) required

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience

Responsibilities

Serve as expert resource for highly complex proposal development, non‑typical reporting, and electronic research administration systems.

Exhibit thorough knowledge of institutional and sponsor policies and procedures pertaining to external funding, finance, and advanced research administration.

Maintain DLSA status for submission of all types of proposals to external funding agencies.

Assist faculty in proposal development and award administration by independently managing form completion and creating proposal sections.

Create highly complex spreadsheets that cross multiple variables and summarize complex parameters.

Provide administration and direct support to Center faculty (and faculty in other UGA departments, other universities, or external organizations) by interpreting agency philosophy, policies, regulations, and guidelines to ensure proposal conformity.

Develop budgets, budget justifications, and support pages; submit proposals; manage grant requirements for reporting, progress, and other obligations until termination.

Sign Center proposals as the UGA Institutional Signatory and submit the proposal directly to the funding agency.

Advise Center faculty on proposal needs and requirements not yet met; determine how to comply with guidelines and follow through independently.

Notify Center faculty of upcoming submission dates for mandatory progress reports and competitive renewals.

Prepare administrative portions of reports and submit after receiving research portions from faculty; reports may be paper or electronic with hard deadlines.

Handle inquiries regarding required grant proposal information from granting agencies, faculty, and/or the Office of Sponsored Projects; write justifications for special approvals and chart string account additions.

Add appropriate documentation in the UGA grants portal for No‑Cost Extensions and Residual Balances.

Request pending awards as needed to maintain seamless funding availability.

Attend Research Administration Discussion Group (RADG) meetings; serve on or chair campus‑wide research administration task forces and committees, as requested.

Participate in developing policies and plans for the activity and management of grants, contracts, and related research requirements for the Centers.

Maintain current knowledge of UGA and federal, state, and agency guidelines for sponsored research administration.

Identify funding sources and analyze specific research areas and interests of faculty members to provide information regarding external funding opportunities; advise faculty on grantsmanship.

Maintain a database for active and pending grant support for assigned Center faculty and senior personnel; use the data to prepare current and pending forms for NIH, DOE, NSF, USDA, etc. for Center grant application submissions.
