Summary of Duties
Maintains, repairs, and operates vehicles (e.g., trucks, tractor, maintenance vehicles, man‑lifts, and golf carts), heavy machinery, and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed‑eaters, mowers, blowers, power tools, pruners, pole saws). Performs routine equipment and shop maintenance.
Performs tasks of mowing grass, tree trimming, fertilizing, weed‑eating, landscaping, pesticide applications, irrigation repairs, plant fertilization, spraying, watering, pruning, propagating and cultivating grasses, flowers, bushes, trees, and other plants and shrubbery. Installs landscaping and related items on campus grounds. Seeds and fertilizes as needed.
Ensures campus is always neat and attractive.
Performs snow removal by operating heavy and light equipment (i.e., skid‑steers, front‑end loaders, sweepers, brooms, shovels, and dump trucks, etc.). Keeps sidewalks and steps clear of snow and ice.
Blows and sweeps sidewalks, stairs, porches, and parking lots weekly if not daily.
Ensures completion of projects in accordance with assignments given by supervisor.
Assists with general maintenance as assigned. Assists with changing light bulbs as needed.
Assists with set‑up/break‑down for programs and events.
Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies; assists with set‑up/teardown for campus‑sponsored and hosted events, as directed.
Maintains the storm and sanitary sewer systems.
Maintains, repairs, and winterizes all irrigation systems.
Requests supplies or materials to maintain inventory and ensures availability of items required.
Clears all areas when finishing a project.
Performs other duties as assigned, which includes a minimum of eight hours for Special Events.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Working Conditions
Shift work occurs outside normal working hours of Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm with one hour of unpaid lunch.
Shifts may be early morning, late morning, evening, night shifts, and rotating shifts.
Additional hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to stand or bend for hours at a time.
Must be competent with ground‑keeping tools.
Must be able to go up and down.
Ability to actively work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, dirt, etc.
Frequently lifts 60 pounds; occasionally lifts more than 100 pounds; frequently walks, kneels, crouches, bends, twists, and engages in other physical exertion including and not limited to climbing ladders.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid ND Driver’s License and be insurable under UTTC’s insurance carrier.
Experience using yard maintenance equipment.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of tools and equipment to perform duties.
Knowledge of proper maintenance protocols for vehicles, equipment, buildings, and vegetation.
Ability to follow detailed instructions.
Experience using yard maintenance equipment.
Experience using power hand tools.
Ability to safely operate heavy snow removal equipment.
Must be able to work independently and with others.
One year of ground‑keeping maintenance experience that includes outside maintenance tasks such as grounds keeping, landscaping, irrigation repairs, equipment maintenance, etc.
