Position Purpose: Responsible for performing a broad variety of financial services such as opening and closing accounts, renewing time deposit accounts, and assisting clients with account inquiries, maintenance, and problem resolution. Also collaborates with the Teller Supervisor to develop, train, and motivate lobby associates to assist customers and effectively cross‑sell bank products and services. Has extensive knowledge of all deposit and loan products and services, identifies sales and referral opportunities, and strives to meet related goals.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Assume responsibility for the effective and professional performance of financial service functions.
Present and explain bank products and services to clients and assist in meeting their financial needs, including opening, closing, and maintaining checking, savings, time deposit, and individual retirement accounts; working with safe deposit boxes, savings bonds, credit cards and basic consumer loans.
Answer questions and solve problems for clients by listening, collecting data, and securing answers.
Profile clients to identify sales opportunities and use lead lists and other strategies to generate additional business.
Establish and maintain effective, professional business relations with clients, resolving requests promptly and courteously.
Receive and process new client accounts and changes to existing accounts (name changes, address changes, product changes).
Maintain privacy of customer account information and project the bank’s professional reputation.
Coordinate and maintain relationships with area personnel and management; assist area personnel as required.
Keep the Banking Center Manager informed of area activities and significant problems; complete required reports and records accurately and promptly.
Attend meetings and training classes on weekdays, evenings, and/or Saturdays; oversee annual year‑end reporting and special projects such as key box or safe deposit box audits.
Support Treasury Management with new accounts and services for clients; ensure daily logs are completed correctly and organized.
Actively and professionally sell bank products and services; meet sales production goals.
Perform related clerical duties as needed and keep work areas clean, secure, and well‑maintained.
Performance Measurements
Financial service functions are performed efficiently, effectively, and accurately according to policies, standards, and security procedures.
Client problems and questions are resolved courteously and promptly.
Good working relationships exist with area personnel and management; supervisors are informed of area activities.
Reports and records are accurate, complete and timely.
New client relationships are developed and existing relationships strengthened by identifying opportunities to sell products and meet production goals.
The bank’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
Good understanding of financial services and products provided.
Zero to 3 years of new account experience.
Complete the Personal Banker Mentor Program or Personal Banker Learning Plan and any applicable Teller Learning Plan.
Training in Caller Identification Process and Secure code; BPM Levels I‑IV; DocuSign forms; consumer checking/savings; commercial checking/savings; debit card issuance; account file maintenance; DDA exception clearance; debit card disputes; cross‑selling of bank products; credit cards; Harland check order; domestic wire transfers; denial exceptions; missing signature cards; risk management (I‑III); teller line assistance; account closure; service charge waivers reporting; online banking.
Excellent communication and public relations skills; professional appearance and attitude.
Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment, including 10‑key and telephone.
Solid math and bookkeeping abilities.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Talking, average hearing, finger dexterity, repetitive motion, average visual acuity, and sedentary work with occasional exertion up to 10 lbs.
Reasoning ability to apply common sense and deal with problems involving a few variables.
Basic mathematics ability to compute ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs.
Language ability to use a passive vocabulary of 5,000‑6,000 words and communicate in complex sentences.
