Financial Aid Advisor
The Blinn College District is searching for a Financial Aid Advisor at our Bryan Campus.
Responsibilities
Processing and assisting students and parents across the Blinn College District on applying for and receiving financial aid, scholarships, and veteran educational benefits. Processing all consortium agreements, and the primary financial aid contact with Texas A&M for the TEAM and Brenham Engineering Academy. Awards and manages the Texas Equal Opportunity Grant. Process all areas of financial aid from answering the phones to awarding students, completing reports, and performing professional judgments. The position double checks all verification corrections and works with students with unique situations that could affect their financial aid.
Process all consortium agreement requirements for Blinn College with other institutions and serve as the main financial aid contact for students and partnering schools.
Award and manage the Texas Equal Opportunity Grant (TEOG), ensuring all allocated funds are awarded and disbursed according to Texas Higher Education regulations.
Provide customer service and advise students and parents on navigating the application process for financial aid, scholarships, and veteran educational benefits via in‑person, email, and phone.
Review requests for income adjustments and dependency overrides, gather necessary documentation, make decisions, and perform calculations as needed; also review satisfactory academic appeals.
Process financial aid, scholarships, and veteran educational benefits, ensuring quality and accuracy to comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies, including processing exception reports.
Deliver community outreach presentations about financial aid to various groups and offer direct service through multiple communication channels.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Competencies
Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly with people of various backgrounds and experiences.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented, and a team player.
Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Financial aid experience at a higher education institution and knowledge of U.S. Department of Education and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board regulations.
Experience with Banner or Ellucian products.
Preferred Competencies
Experience using Office products (Word, Excel), including formulas and pivot tables.
Knowledge of the Veteran Administration and Texas state educational benefits for veterans and their dependents.
Benefits and Notes
This is a 12‑month, benefits‑eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full‑time employees and 50% for dependents, and provides life insurance benefits equal to two times your annual salary. Yearly leave time includes 96 hours vacation, 40 hours discretionary, 16 hours personal, and 8 hours sick each month. Paid leave for college‑designated holidays, spring break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas break (approximately 25 days per year).
