Controller
who's ready to roll up their sleeves, take ownership of core accounting functions, and drive meaningful process improvements across a multi-entity business.
This is not a purely strategic role, you'll be in the weeds where it matters most, ensuring financial accuracy, strengthening controls, and optimizing operations. A major focus of this position is leading and transforming the Accounts Payable function, making it more efficient, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
You’ll partner closely with the Director of Finance and play a critical role in cash flow management, financial reporting, and supporting key business decisions.
This position is in-office at our location in Virginia Beach, VA. The compensation is $90,000 - $120,000 based on experience.
What You'll Do
Lead & Optimize Accounts Payable (Primary Focus)
Take full ownership of the AP function from invoice intake to payment execution
Improve processes, controls, and workflows to drive efficiency and accuracy
Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely, strategic payments
Identify automation opportunities and implement smarter systems
Oversee commissions, royalties, and rebate reporting
Oversee Accounts Receivable
Ensure accurate invoicing, collections, and cash application
Monitor aging and collaborate with teams to improve cash collection
Help drive improvements in DSO and revenue accuracy
Own Cash Flow & Treasury Support
Build and maintain cash flow forecasts
Monitor liquidity and support funding decisions
Execute treasury activities including ACH and wire transactions
Lead the Close & Financial Integrity
Own the month-end close process from start to finish
Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data
Ensure books are accurate, organized, and audit-ready
Drive Reporting & Insights
Prepare monthly financials and management reports
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Provide visibility into spending trends and cost drivers
Improve Processes & Strengthen Controls
Enhance internal controls across all accounting functions
Standardize and document processes
Support system improvements, integrations, and automation
Partner cross-functionally to improve margins and cost control
Support Audit & Year-End
Assist with year-end close, tax prep, and audit requests
Serve as a key contact for auditors in core accounting areas
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA‑track preferred)
6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership
Strong background in high-volume Accounts Payable oversight
Solid expertise in general ledger, close process, and financial reporting
Experience in multi-entity or multi-division environments is a plus
Proven ability to manage cash flow and support treasury functions
Proficiency with systems like NetSuite, Ramp, or similar tools
Advanced Excel skills
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage competing priorities
