
Equipment Operator – Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, Dozer

This position performs tasks required for the operation of hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction or upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Load and unload equipment in a manner that is secure and damage-free.
Transport associated tools, materials, and/or equipment safely.
Complete a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work.
In conjunction with the crew, operate the equipment to assist in placing underground utilities.
Operate equipment in accordance with company and industry standards.
Locate existing underground utilities and verify them according to blueprints.
Identify utilities in the construction area and bore path.
Connect/stub-up conduit and wire as required.
Dig pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities.
Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment (timesheet, vehicle log, expense report).
Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner.
Perform other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans, and specifications.
Knowledge of utility depths and placements.
Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
Work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels.
Work in trenches, excavations, and manholes.
Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks.
Work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
Manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Work 5–7 days a week, 10+ hours a day when necessary.
Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Education and Experience
One year of experience operating a directional bore drill.
Previous rock boring experience.
One year of Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, and Dozer experience.
Class A CDL.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Willing and able to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projects.
Lift at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Pass pre‑employment drug test and criminal background screen.
Complete and pass a DOT Physical.
Physical Demands
This position typically requires balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and talking.
Working Conditions
The employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions as they will be driving and working outdoors in all types of weather.
Travel
This position may require travel, including traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
