
Maintenance Service Worker I (Stormwater)

The purpose of this position is to serve as an integral team player assigned to the City of Lauderdale Lakes Public Works Department Stormwater division. Performs tasks primarily designed to maintain the appearance of the community, including the city-owned land and features.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Public Works and/or designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
Performs the day-to-day tasks necessary to maintain the attractiveness of City-owned land and features in Lauderdale Lakes parks.
Maintains road, rights-of-way (including pavement, curbs, gutters, swales and medians), city parking lots, C-13 trailway and bus shelters. Removes trash, debris and other items (such as shopping carts). Cuts grass with a riding lawn mower and trims edges with a weed eater. Trims plants and bushes with hedge trimmers. Removes weeds. Applies insecticide. Clears streets, sidewalks and gutters using brooms, rakes and blowers. Install, clean catch basins, storm drains, canals and easements. Repairs sprinklers, concrete and curbing. Erects, cleans and repairs city signs. Picks up and dispose of dead fish, birds and animals.
Loads and unloads materials and specialized play areas. May include raking the clay infields, installing bases and nets, and placing lines on the fields. Makes minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
Loads and unloads materials from trucks. Paints buildings, equipment, curbs, on roadways and in parking lots. Maintains and keeps all assigned equipment and tools in good working order.
Uses small tools such as shovels, rakes, wrenches, hammers, weed eaters, blowers, trimmers, chain saws, etc. Operates equipment including tractors, chippers, pick-up trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, bucket trucks, forklifts, Weedoo, boats, etc.
Makes a continuing effort to ensure that both self and fellow crew members follow sound safety practices. Notifies supervisor of violations of city safety practices.
Performs other duties assigned and/or required.
Education and Experience:
Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
Must possess at least one (1) year working experience using hand tools and light equipment in a construction, streets, landscaping, or maintenance capacity.
Must possess a valid State issued Driver’s License.
Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B or ability to obtain CDL class B license within first year of hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies as it pertains to the duties of the Maintenance Worker.
Knowledge of safety procedures and occupational hazards associated with maintenance work.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Ability to use hand tools, light power tools, and pressure cleaner.
Ability to perform manual labor and follow instructions.
Ability to learn City procedures for performing work, applying chemicals safely and operating and maintaining equipment.
Ability to speak clearly, and sufficient hearing to receive oral feedback from employees and to be warned of impending danger.
Ability to work during the weekends, evenings and holidays.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Assigned computer, including Microsoft Office software; phone; and copiers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position performs work where the employee is frequently required to operate a variety of tools and equipment including a wide variety of power tools, diagnostics tools, two-way radio, vehicle etc. Must be able to exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sufficient agility and freedom of movement to perform manual labor. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must remain on feet for extended periods or time, stoop, kneel, climb and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
