Overview

The Cleaning Team Member – Part Time Temporary plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and student‑ready campus environment that supports learning, belonging, and student success. Guided by a Human First philosophy and the College’s Maroon & Gold Standards (MGS), this position helps ensure that instructional, student‑service, and common spaces are clean, secure, and well‑maintained—contributing directly to students’ ability to focus, persist, and succeed.
Essential Functions

Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and other events.
Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
Clean areas around building entrances, including snow removal and salting.
Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, whiteboards, lighting, and accessories; empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.
Assist with event setup and teardown of facilities.
Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Properly use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as auto scrubbers, extractors, high‑pressure washers, high‑speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees.
Safely use ladders when required.
Lock and unlock assigned interior rooms; check for unlocked doors and windows, report unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
Operate snow removal equipment, including snowbrushes, trucks/plows, and shoveling as needed.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean blinds, taking care around vinyl window graphics.
Assist with campus recycling initiatives.
Maintain cleaning operations, improve quality, and support the institution’s commitment to student success.
Respond to work with a timely, professional, respectful, and proactive approach.
Assist staff and teams within the Facilities Department with work requests, projects, and daily operations.
Work with customers to resolve problems and answer facility‑related questions, communicating work‑arounds, determining scope, and estimating time of work.
Qualifications

Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Current knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used to maintain safe, healthy, and welcoming facilities.
Knowledge of custodial practices, machinery, and related equipment that support consistent service quality and operational excellence.
Understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and regulatory requirements necessary to protect the campus community.
Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures and material safety data sheets.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in support of daily operations, campus events, and student‑facing activities.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, reflecting professionalism, teamwork, and MGS expectations.
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member to support a positive campus climate and shared responsibility for student success.
Safe and responsible use of cleaning equipment and supplies while demonstrating stewardship and attention to detail.
Capability to perform a variety of custodial and cleaning tasks that support clean, orderly, and student‑ready facilities.
Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift up to twenty‑five (25) pounds and occasionally lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Work Environment

The work environment may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
Secondary responsibilities may include operating heavy equipment and performing tasks in various facilities, all while maintaining a safe and respectful environment for students and staff.
