Job Description
Position Overview
The Sheet Metal Apprentice supports the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of commercial sheet metal systems, including ductwork and ventilation components. Working under experienced Sheet Metal Technicians, this role is hands‑on and fast‑paced, requiring attention to detail, willingness to learn, and the ability to travel for projects. The apprentice will gain trade knowledge across metal fabrication, HVAC duct installation, and commercial construction processes.
Primary Responsibilities
Sheet Metal Installation:
Assist with the installation, modification, and repair of sheet metal products, HVAC ducts, hoods, and ventilation components.
Fabrication & Assembly:
Assemble, insulate, solder, bolt, and secure ductwork and sheet metal components according to specifications.
Quality & Inspection:
Perform operational checks and inspections to verify proper installation, airflow, and workmanship.
Tools, Materials & Equipment:
Prepare, load, and organize tools, materials, and equipment needed for daily job tasks and project requirements.
Job Site Organization:
Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure vehicles are properly stocked with necessary supplies.
Cross-Trade Support:
Assist other team members and trades on job sites as needed to support project workflow and timelines.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and PPE requirements on all job sites.
Equipment & Tool Operation:
Safely operate hand tools, cutting tools, drills, and sheet metal equipment.
Documentation:
Complete required paperwork, job logs, and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
Technical Aptitude:
Ability to learn sheet metal fabrication, cutting, assembly, and installation methods.
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to understand basic drawings, plans, and specifications.
Attention to Detail:
Ensures accuracy and quality in measurements, cuts, and assembly.
Teamwork & Communication:
Works well with mechanics, installers, and project leadership.
Adaptability:
Willingness to take on various duties across Special Projects.
Problem Solving:
Ability to identify issues and assist in corrective actions.
Physical Stamina:
Able to lift, climb, crawl, bend, and work in demanding environments.
Qualifications
Experience:
Experience in commercial sheet metal, duct installation, or fabrication is a plus but not required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licenses:
Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
Travel:
Must be willing and able to travel as required for projects.
Working Conditions
Hours:
Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (staggered work schedules may be required). Overtime and overnight travel may be required based on project needs.
Environment:
Indoor/outdoor commercial construction environments with exposure to weather, heights, dust, and noise.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged physical activity requiring stamina and agility, including operating tools, machinery, and equipment essential for tasks. Ability to work at heights and confined spaces.
Safety Requirements:
Must wear appropriate PPE and comply with company and OSHA regulations.
