Position Overview
The Community Excellence Faculty Fellow is a cohort-based faculty appointment designed to advance community-engaged scholarship, teaching, and research at the University of Virginia. Fellows collaborate with university and community partners to develop mutually beneficial initiatives that generate meaningful community impact while contributing to academic knowledge.
This role supports UVA’s commitment to fostering a connected, respectful, and collaborative community through engaged research, dialogue, and partnership-building.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a community-engaged research, teaching, or scholarship project in partnership with local or regional communities
Participate in a faculty cohort focused on collaborative learning, reflection, and project development
Build and sustain equitable, mutually beneficial partnerships with community stakeholders
Contribute to scholarship that demonstrates real-world impact and advances community-engaged practices
Attend and actively engage in fellowship meetings, workshops, and discussions
Share project outcomes through presentations, reports, or publications
Support cross-disciplinary collaboration across UVA schools, departments, and community organizations
Required qualifications
Current faculty appointment or researcher role at the University of Virginia (or eligibility per program guidelines)
Demonstrated interest in community engagement, public scholarship, or service-learning
Experience or strong interest in collaborative, partnership-based work
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and community-based settings
