Head Women's Basketball Coach
Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading all aspects of the women’s basketball program, including recruiting, player development, academic support, operations, and community engagement. This position is expected to sustain and build upon a highly competitive program with a tradition of success while aligning with the mission and values of Jackson State Community College Athletics.
Job Duties
Lead, organize, and administer all aspects of the women’s basketball program
Develop and implement practice plans, game strategies, and player development systems
Recruit and evaluate prospective student‑athletes to build a competitive roster
Schedule contests and coordinate all team‑related activities
Serve as the budget manager for the women’s basketball program, ensuring responsible fiscal planning and oversight
Maintain and oversee the condition, organization, and readiness of the team’s playing and practice facilities
Develop student‑athletes both athletically and personally, emphasizing discipline, accountability, and growth
Monitor and support the academic progress and success of all student‑athletes
Oversee team travel, including transporting student‑athletes to practices, games, and events as needed
Assist in the planning and execution of camps, clinics, and showcases
Engage in fundraising efforts to support program growth and sustainability
Work athletic events as assigned by the department/Director
Participate in and support community service initiatives and outreach efforts
Promote a positive culture that reflects the standards of the institution while sustaining a program that has achieved ten consecutive winning seasons
Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and NJCAA rules and regulations
Collaborate with fellow coaches to ensure alignment, consistency, and overall program success
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Previous coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level
Experience recruiting and evaluating prospective student‑athletes
Ability to manage and oversee a program budget responsibly
Ability to organize team operations, including scheduling, travel, and program logistics
Valid driver’s license and ability to transport student‑athletes as needed
Knowledge of and commitment to NJCAA, conference, and institutional rules and compliance
Background in scheduling at the collegiate level
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Sport Management, Education, Kinesiology, or Coaching)
Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NJCAA or NCAA level
Demonstrated success in recruiting and building competitive rosters
Proven track record of developing student‑athletes both on the court and academically
Experience managing a program budget and overseeing team operations
Experience organizing and leading camps, clinics, and showcases
Demonstrated success in fundraising and program advancement effortsStrong ties to regional and/or national recruiting networks
Experience working with and developing assistant coaches and staff
Commitment to community engagement and building relationships within the service area
Proven ability to sustain a competitive, winning program culture
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student‑athletes
Must be able to organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulations of Jackson State Community College, the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association and the NJCAA
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Prolonged periods of physical activity such as running, walking, moving equipment
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Prolonged periods of standing at times
Prolonged screen time
Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times
Pay Rate
$41,984 - $52,480 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
