Location: Harper-Archer Elementary School

Atlanta Public Schools is seeking an Interrelated Teacher to provide face‑to‑face instruction with students in the school building. The candidate must be adaptable to changing school and district needs and able to create and maintain a climate that promotes respect, tolerance, and peaceful problem solving for all students while teaching Interrelated courses.

Knowledge of general characteristics of children with learning disabilities, mild intellectual disability, emotional behavioral disorder, and related services including special transportation, occupational and physical therapies, speech, adapted physical education, and assistive technology.

Minimum Requirements

Certification:

Minimum of SRT4-Certification in Special Education General Curriculum P‑12 or related field;

OR

Passed the GACE Program Admissions Assessment or have exemption eligibility and completed the GACE Ethics Program Entry Assessment

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required with at least a 2.5 GPA

Work Experience: Experience gained through education and certification/license requirements.

Available for face‑to‑face instruction within the school building with students present.

Essential Duties

Instruct students with a learning disability, mild intellectual disability, or emotional behavioral disorder through lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods.

Prepare lessons and outlines to use in class that effectively cover the material.

Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.

Administer various types of assessments to monitor students’ comprehension of the material.

Administer and/or support state and local testing processes and policies.

Use computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment to supplement presentations.

Assist students who need extra help with tutoring and guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems.

Maintain classroom sanitation and uphold safety standards.

Monitor students in the classroom, at lunch, and throughout the school, maintaining order and discipline.

Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

Perform administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff.

Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise academic programs following approved curricula.

Coordinate in‑person conferences with parents and guardians to review students’ performance and behavioral issues.

Attend faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences to maintain professional competence.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.

Assist administrators and staff in the orderly, expedient, and safe transition of students from one location to another.

Assist with training volunteers in person.

Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on‑site during regular business hours and as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Physical Abilities & Working Conditions

Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.

Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.

Speech: Ability to be understood in face‑to‑face communications, and to speak with adequate clarity on telephone or computer.

Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; extend arms to reach; lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 5 pounds; may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level; maths skills at high school proficiency; judgement; ability to process information quickly; learn rapidly; follow verbal procedures; give instruction; rank tasks; manage stress.
