Salary: $19.71 – $25.91 per hour (educational incentive may apply)
Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision, FSA/DCAP, Life/AD&D through SEBB, Retirement through DRS; optional 403(b) and DCP
Leave: 9 sick days (pro‑rated for mid‑year hires), 9 paid holidays
Qualifications
18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent
Meet Washington State Paraeducator Minimum Employment requirements by providing evidence of one of the following:
Associate degree
At least 72 quarter or 48 semester credits of 100‑level courses or higher
Pass the ETS Para‑Pro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher (applicant pays applicable fees)
Background check through Washington State Patrol (applicant pays applicable fees)
Completion of Safe Schools Web‑Based Training at hire and annually thereafter
Effective oral and written communication in English, correct grammar and spelling
Ability to learn and apply new skills
Skills in organization and time management
Ability to show flexibility and good judgment
Ability to interact positively and confidentially with individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Ability to implement educational programs and manage student behavior with direction from certificated staff
Ability to maintain composure in high‑stress situations where students may exhibit aggression, non‑compliance and other conduct problems
Willingness to complete training on restraint and/or de‑escalation as required
Ability to work effectively and collegially with staff, community and students
Physical ability to walk, sit, squat, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, reach and lift to attend to the physical needs of students, including lifting up to 40 pounds
Ability to carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds regularly
Additional Skills
Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish considered helpful. District tests to verify skill levels.
Responsibilities
Administer tests, homework assignments, make‑up work, etc., supporting certificated staff in the instructional process.
Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments (reading, math, etc.) to practice and reinforce learning concepts and reach academic/IEP goals.
Attend assigned functions (meetings, in‑service presentations, trainings) to acquire or apply information relative to job functions.
Collaborate with certificated staff to evaluate student progress and implement or modify student objectives.
Guide students in independent study activities for ensuring student success.
Under supervision, implement instructional programs and lesson plans to assist students.
Maintain classroom resources, work area and student files/records.
Monitor students individually or in groups in settings such as classroom, playground, trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc., to identify required assistance and ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
Perform record keeping and clerical functions (copying, correcting papers, completing attendance verifications, handling phone calls) to support certificated staff and provide necessary materials. Report observations and incidents relating to specific students.
Respond to emergency situations (injured student, fights, etc.) to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
Support classroom teachers and other certificated staff (OT, SLP, etc.) in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
Physical demands: about 5% lifting up to 40 lbs; about 55% of the day standing, reaching, bending, walking; about 40% of the time working from a sitting position.
Performed under temperature variations consistent with indoor and outdoor temperatures.
May interact with students displaying aggression, non‑compliance or other conduct problems.
Special Education Paraeducator Additional Tasks
Assist students with clothing, movement, and toilet usage.
Assist individual students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
Work closely with certificated staff to plan and carry out IEPs.
Complete any other special education program‑related tasks assigned by the certificated staff or administrator.
May interact with students displaying aggression, non‑compliance or other conduct problems.
ASL and/or para language considered helpful.
Other duties as assigned.
