Job Description
TITLE: READING SPECIALIST
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To positively impact student literacy achievement and professional learning by implementing and modeling best instructional practice in literacy development.
Qualifications
Certification and experience as an elementary teacher (three or more years).
Endorsement as a Reading Specialist with Master’s Degree.
REPORTS TO:
Principal
RESPONSIBLILITIES
Work collaboratively with the school administrators and staff to identify students in selected populations who most need additional instruction, intervention, or remediation in reading.
Provide direct services to identified students or target groups of these students, as assigned by the Principal, in order to support student progress and literacy development.
Delivers instructional support services preferably, in an inclusive model.
Implements effective instructional strategies that result in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress.
Identify literacy-related staff development needs of individual teachers and grade level teams within the school. Work with the Principal, School Improvement Team, and Office of Instruction to determine how to best meet student needs.
Model and demonstrate best practices in literacy instruction, including those targeted by the school division. Work collaboratively with teachers to implement these strategies.
Lead and support administration of literacy assessments and the analysis of related student data; school wide, grade level, and individual classrooms.
