HVAC Technician, (O3) HVAC&R

The HVAC&R Technician is responsible for providing equipment troubleshooting and maintenance support for ongoing facility, manufacturing operation and growth initiatives at the site. The role involves developing standard operating procedures and preventative maintenance plans, managing SAP transactions, performing change control activities and maintaining preventive maintenance plans. The Technician will support vaccine process equipment, resolve plant engineering maintenance problems, and assist with continuous improvement initiatives across operations, quality, automation, technology and other teams.

HVAC Skills Concentration
Industrial HVAC&R knowledge is required, specifically industrial refrigeration systems including DX systems, chillers, cascade refrigeration, freezers, air handlers and cold boxes. Essential troubleshooting skills include GMP areas, room pressurization and dehumidification systems. Ability to read electrical prints, P&ID’s and understand P&ID control loops is required. Extensive experience with utility systems and a strong knowledge of HVAC, steam, potable water is necessary. Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS is preferred.

Responsibility Areas

Utility Equipment (Clean steam generators, Water‑For‑Injection generation/distribution, reverse osmosis skids, vapor compression stills, compressed gas systems)

Automated Systems (Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC))

Maintenance Equipment (tools and calibration equipment)

Lab equipment / instrument calibrations and maintenance; Autoclaves and Mechanical equipment

HVAC/ Refrigeration systems, Chilled water, Glycol, plant steam and condensate systems

Electrical distribution systems, Motor control systems, generators and ATS systems, VFD’s

Key Responsibilities

Work with and troubleshoot complex process systems.

Perform routine maintenance tasks (diaphragm/gasket replacement, lubrication, filter changes, rotating equipment inspection and adjustments).

Install, test, adjust, maintain, repair, calibrate and troubleshoot complex automated process equipment.

Develop standard operating procedures, engineering change requests, preventative maintenance plans, calibration procedures and task lists.

Use compliance systems (SAP, ProCal, Lab X, Pi) to maintain PM programs and assess equipment.

Order and maintain spare parts, place in MRO system.

Interface with other departments, contractors and disciplines on scheduling repairs and maintenance.

Assist with calibration, automation, validation and additional testing.

Document individual and team activities in writing.

Complete preventative maintenance and calibration work orders; resolve deviations.

Improve customer service, meet quality, quantity, and on‑time delivery expectations.

Identify revisions to calibration and maintenance programs to meet safety, GMP and procedural standards.

Facilitate contractor bids, review contracts, supervise work execution and audit time and material reports.

Maintain schedule adherence, oversee unplanned calibrations and maintenance.

Use Hazardous Energy Control Procedures for safe maintenance.

Comply with cGMP, safety and environmental requirements/guidelines.

Communicate effectively, demonstrate strong leadership, planning, scheduling and time‑management skills.

Provide consistent communication across shifts.

Manage multiple priorities concurrently.

Read P&ID, electrical drawings, blueprints.

Use hand and power tools and testing instrumentation.

Support an on‑call schedule during nights and weekends; flexible scheduling to accommodate company requirements.

Physical Requirements

Lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level.

Walk, bend, crawl, stoop.

Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, hard hats, safety harnesses).

Wear clean‑room gowning during job duties.

Education Minimum Requirement

HS Diploma or Equivalent

Required Experience and Skills

Minimum 5 years of plant maintenance experience with technical craft skills (instrumentation, electrical, plumbing, advanced mechanical, HVAC, and/or multi‑stage refrigeration systems).

Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in GMP manufacturing operations.

Proficiency in computer systems (Microsoft Office, PLCs, CMMS Calibration/Maintenance Database Systems).

Availability for “On‑Call” work rotation during off‑hours and weekend overtime.

Proficiency in PCs (Hardware & Software) including Microsoft Windows platform.

HVAC and instrumentation troubleshooting skills.

Read electrical prints, P&ID’s, and understand P&ID control loops.

Excellent documentation and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal, organizational and individual aptitude.

Valid EPA 608 Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Experience and Skills

Associate Degree in Industrial Systems, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical or Instrumentation.

Experience in a clean‑room or GMP/regulated manufacturing environment.

Installation, operation, maintenance and/or troubleshooting experience with automated process equipment in biopharmaceutical field.

Experience with GMP compliant calibration and/or maintenance database systems.

Knowledge of SAP, Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens Apogee BAS.

Refrigeration license.

Extensive knowledge of industrial HVAC and building automation systems.

Extensive knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems (DX, cascade, absorption).

Experience in regulated industry such as FDA.

Desiccant dehumidification system knowledge.

Room pressure controls.

Utility system generation, distribution and control; knowledge of steam, compressed air, refrigeration and water systems.

Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS is preferred.
