If so, we are seeking an engineer to help us perform research, development, design, analysis and prototyping of next generation reentry systems, hypersonic vehicles, and enabling technologies to advance our Nation's premiere strategic weapons systems. Reentry System Mechanical Engineer
You will collaborate with cross-discipline teams to develop advanced reentry system designs and prototypes
Responsible for the design of the hypersonic reentry vehicle through the full product lifecycle (Design, Build, and Test)
Develop and maintain product designs and specifications associated with hardware, work with in-house facilities, procurement, and external suppliers to develop systems
Lead trade studies on vehicle design concepts and system use cases
Design and analyze next generation vehicles, components, and fixturing
You will participate in prototyping activities to include sub-scale/full-scale tests, system integration and test, test planning, and/or test execution support
You will produce reports and presentations to communicate findings to team members, external organization partners, and government sponsors
Qualifications
Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
Have minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Proficient in Creo or Solidworks CAD modeling
Have experience in mechanical design and fabrication
Can communicate effectively in a matrix organization that will bring exposure to APL staff at multiple levels, sponsors, and industry partners
Can work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams comprised of APL staff, government sponsors, military personnel, and industry partners with varying experience levels and backgrounds
Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
Have a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Advanced knowledge in the design, integration, and/or testing of hypersonics/reentry systems
Have previous experience with Navy and/or Air Force strategic missiles, reentry systems, or hypersonic vehicles
Expertise in CAD equipment usage, 3D modeling/file manipulation and Product Data Management tools
Experience in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA)
Familiarity with modal, random vibration, shock, and static analyses of structures
Familiarity with steady-state and transient heat transfer analyses
Proficient in the design and development of mechanical systems and working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
Hold an active Secret or higher level clearance
Compensation
Minimum Rate: $100,000 Annually
Maximum Rate: $245,000 Annually
