Job Summary

Provides EL Services to English Learners individually and in groups using various teaching methods specific to second language acquisition, while supporting grade level content. This position teaches elementary and/or secondary English Learners.

What you will do

Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all assigned students and assists students needing additional support. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests, specifically students acquiring English.

Establishes clear content and language objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. Communicates those objectives to students.

Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in their classroom.

Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to celebrate academic successes and to resolve students’ behavioral problems.

Designs and implements a variety of formative assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and identify gaps in learning. Uses assessment data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.

Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities. Creates a positive achievement-oriented learning environment.

Participates in collaborative curriculum development and grade-level and/or school activities of home base school.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree In education or related degree Required

Experience Qualifications

Prior ESL teaching experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

For elementary position - Must have a current Elementary and ESL Tennessee Teaching certificate or be in an eligible alternative licensure program Required

For secondary position - Must have a current ESL Tennessee Teaching certificate or be in an eligible alternative licensure program Required

Equivalency

Starting At: $53,610.04

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
