Job Description
Title:

District Athletic Director (6th-12th)

Qualifications and Credentials

Master’s Degree and Kentucky Teacher Certification

Minimum of three years successful teaching experience

Minimum of three years successful coaching experience

Working knowledge of all District Sports

Must demonstrate interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Must be of good character and moral behavior; no felony convictions or past criminal history; in good health as evidenced by a physical examination as prescribed by the Board

Successful completion of a criminal records check, AIDS awareness training, current certification in first aid and CPR and a valid Kentucky driver’s license required

Superintendent or designee

General Responsibilities:

The District Athletic Director is responsible for the management, supervision, coordination, and planning of the district’s schools athletic programs, athletic functions, and athletic facilities. Those responsibilities include oversight of student participation and supervision and evaluation of all coaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics of the district.

Coordinates with school administration to ensure supervision for all home athletic contests for each sport (middle school, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity).

Coordinates and provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of all coaches.

Ensures that all coaches, including para‑professionals and volunteers, meet all training requirements on an annual basis.

Performs annual evaluations of all head coaches.

Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.

Supervises ticket sales, concessions, and other fundraiser events connected to the athletic program and manages revenue accounting.

Oversees the coordination and maintenance of all athletic competition and practice venues, ensuring safety and hazard‑free conditions.

Prepares all work requests related to athletic venues.

Interprets and implements all rules and guidelines prescribed in the SCS Athletic Handbook.

Acts as the district’s liaison to middle school athletic programs to promote cooperation and continuity.

Interprets and implements all athletic regulations and rulings mandated by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Serves as the school Title IX Coordinator and Chair of the school’s Title IX Committee, maintaining compliance and reporting.

Conducts regular coach meetings and training sessions.

Oversees the coordination of the assignment of officials for all athletic contests.

Assists with proper supervision, crowd control, and transportation for all athletic contests.

Assists coaches with logistics related to travel, including lodging and meals, when needed.

Verifies student eligibility for each sport, coordinating with administration, counselors, teachers, and parents.

Prepares and administers the overall athletic budget and supervises budgets for each sport.

Supervises and assists coaches with purchasing, maintenance, and storage of all athletic supplies, uniforms, and equipment.

Maintains inventory of equipment and assets for each team.

Coordinates scheduling and contracts associated with athletic contests.

Makes arrangements for visiting teams.

Coordinates scheduling and payment of all game officials.

Coordin­ates the use of all school and non‑school playing fields, gymnasiums, and other athletic venues.

Supervises and coordinates practice schedules and use of school facilities.

Coordinates sale of season tickets for all sports.

Promotes and coordinates information for schedules, changes, and updates.

Ensures student athletes complete all pre‑participation requirements and documentation.

Coordinates and oversees all student athlete transfers for eligibility and KHSAA compliance.

Coordinates the insurance program covering school athletes and processes claims.

Documents and tracks all athletic injuries and clearance to participate.

Maintains records of district athletic contests and statistics.

Custodian of district athletic records, team and individual records, and awards.

Plans and coordinates all recognition programs for teams and individuals.

Represents SCS at district or state meetings related to athletics.

Maintains communication with media outlets to publicize events.

Oversees pre‑game, half‑time, and post‑game activities and ceremonies.

Coordinates press box assignments and accessibility.

Governs all game‑management personnel: security, gate workers, emergency personnel, announcers, score keepers, and cleanup crews.

Manages concession stands during athletic events and ensures health code compliance.

Develops and implements Emergency Action Plans for each venue.

Assists athletic booster clubs and serves as liaison regarding Title IX, Red Book procedures, and district policies.

Attends all district and region pre‑ and post‑season meetings and KHSAA meetings.

Maintains the school athletic website, app, and online platforms.

Maintains required records on the KHSAA website.

Coordinates School Hall of Fame nominations, elections, and ceremonies.

Serves as tournament manager and post‑season director when hosted by the district.

Coordinates community requests for use of school athletic facilities.

Displays self‑control with parents, students, and school personnel.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Other Expectations:

The District Athletic Director is expected to be a role model for all coaches, student‑athletes, parents, and spectators by demonstrating professionalism in appearance, attitude, and actions. They must treat all individuals with fairness, dignity, and respect, maintain regular attendance at athletic events, uphold the professional code of conduct, and abide by district policies.

Terms of Employment:

Based on rank, years of experience, and supplemental pay according to the SCS salary schedule.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Daily responsibilities include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. All job tasks must be performed safely and in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
