Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach – Administrative, Exempt (10 months), Full-time (40 Hours). Anticipated hiring range near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. Introductory period: Twelve (12) months. Definition of Classification
The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the University of Redlands Men’s Soccer program, including team instruction and recruitment efforts. Reporting directly to the Head Coach, this position plays a key role in advancing the mission of the University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Bulldog Men’s Soccer program. The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach is expected to uphold and comply with all University, NCAA, and SCIAC rules, regulations, and policies. This position requires flexibility, including availability for night and weekend commitments, and may involve extended travel for competitions and recruiting purposes.
Responsibilities
Supports head coach in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes based on ongoing roster expectations determined by the Head Coach, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletic, and the Admissions.
Assists with master recruit database.
Arranges and conducts on- and off-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
Assists with on-field coaching, training, practice design, and skill development.
Manages and tracks student-athlete academic progress and provides necessary support, including, but not limited to, student referrals to campus.
Manages administrative tasks such as travel arrangements, practice schedules, transportation, team logistics, weekly reports, equipment management, and team fundraising.
Supports head coach with planning, execution, and maintenance of all aspects of the program’s social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
Scouts opponents and prepares scouting reports for head coach and team members.
Functions as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by attending all required staff meetings and completing mandatory assignments.
Performs other duties and special projects when assigned to support team, departmental, and/or University-wide.
Qualifications Guidelines
Required
Bachelor’s degree.
Three years of soccer coaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to recruit and attract high-achieving student-athletes.
Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting.
A valid California Class C driver’s license with a good driving record. Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment; must obtain a California Class “C” license within ten (10) days of appointment.
Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
Preferred
At least one year of intercollegiate soccer coaching experience.
Coaching license.
Master’s degree.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
Knowledge and understanding of NCAA Division III and SCIAC philosophy, rules and regulations.
Ability to attract outstanding students to the University.
Strong interpersonal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
Ability to lead with professional integrity and ethical standards in compliance with appropriate safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of personal computers and software applications.
Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology.
Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and ability to interpret and apply them.
Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
Competence in interacting with a culturally and ethically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Moderate to loud noise environment; work inside and outdoors.
Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
Travel for extended periods for contests and recruiting; flex nights and weekends.
Physical activities: standing, walking, sitting for long periods; operating computer equipment; climbing stairs; lifting up to 25 pounds; walking regularly; bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching as needed.
