Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position prioritizes external candidates.
POSITION TITLE:
Autism Intervention Specialist PK (Classroom Teacher)
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal
Education:
Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License to teach children with disabilities
Experience:
Previous experience working in public educational setting desired.
Intervention Specialist provides an educational program for students as defined in the student's Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.)
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate as a collaborative team member in intervention planning, multifactored evaluations, and reevaluations for students within the required timelines.
Coordinate the development and continuous monitoring of Individual Educational Plans for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate services and supplemental aides and supports are provided in the least restrictive environment within required timelines consistent with The Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities.
Implement educational interventions and specially designed instruction adapting, as appropriate, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique need of the student.
Design and implement meaningful parent involvement activities that include parents as equal partners.
Other duties as assigned Principal/Manager or his/her designee.
Essential Functions/ Skills and Knowledge:
Skills
Will work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricula as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
Will communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.
Will participate in professional growth activities through staff development, in-service, workshops, and higher education.
Will use data to plan instruction and evaluate student progress
Will have the ability to give directions to paraprofessionals
Will be skilled at collaborating with general education teachers and other school team members
Will have the ability to create schedules for inclusion
Will have the ability to use and implement the Ohio Extended Standards
Will have knowledge of the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD)
Knowledge
Knowledge and experience with research-based best practices in specialized instruction
Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards
Knowledge of Operating Standards for Ohio's Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities
Knowledge of Ohio Model Policies and Procedures
Knowledge of federal and state legislation
Strong oral and written communication skills
