SSM Health SLUCare Physician Group is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon to join its academic faculty practice. This position offers the opportunity to practice within a collaborative academic environment that integrates clinical excellence, medical education, and scholarly activity.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentorship, and advancing academic surgery while providing high-quality patient care within a tertiary and quaternary referral setting.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive general surgery services within an academic medical center
Deliver high-quality, evidence-based surgical care in inpatient and outpatient settings
Participate in faculty call coverage consistent with an academic practice model
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex surgical patients
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Academic and Teaching Responsibilities
Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows
Participate in resident education, supervision, and evaluation
Engage in didactic teaching, skills labs, simulation, and academic conferences
Participate in morbidity and mortality conferences, grand rounds, and case conferences
Contribute to curriculum development and academic program growth
Scholarly and Professional Responsibilities
Participate in scholarly activity, clinical research, outcomes research, or quality improvement initiatives
Support departmental academic goals and accreditation requirements
Engage in academic committees and faculty governance as appropriate
Maintain board certification and academic credentials
Uphold the mission, values, and ethical standards of SSM Health and Saint Louis University
Required Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
Eligibility for faculty appointment at Saint Louis University School of Medicine
Eligibility for medical licensure in the applicable state(s)
DEA license or eligibility
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated interest in academic surgery and surgical education
Prior teaching experience with residents or medical students
Scholarly activity or research experience
Subspecialty interests aligned with departmental needs
