Position Summary
Posting Note:
The Formula & Milk Technician position is currently being offered as a full-time role, to support the nutrition lab operations. The nutrition lab is open 7 days a week; however all shifts cover the day; there are no night shifts! Must be flexible to start at varied times and rotate working weekends and holidays.
Performs a variety of tasks that are responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory and management of Human Milk (HM), Donor Milk (DM) and formula.
Position Duties
Handle human milk and formula using aseptic techniques, adhering to all sanitary regulations and standards established by the hospital, including HACCP and patient safety policies.
Deliver and pick up to individual rooms/units/floors within the hospital.
Verify feeding orders with registered dietitians or other designated medical staff to ensure accuracy.
Communicate with lactation consultants, nurses, other medical team members and parents to ensure milk or formula is accurately utilized, prepared and stored.
Monitor daily inventory which could include checking expiration dates, restocking units/floors, rotating stock and ordering additional supplies as needed, or notifying appropriate personnel when supplies are needed.
Participate in a variety of in-service programs, meetings and conferences.
Ensure that all utensils, workstations and supplies have been successfully cleaned and sanitized.
Works cooperatively with own and other departments to continuously improve the quality of services provided. Demonstrates excellent customer service and adapts to unanticipated requests.
Treat all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Maintains a working knowledge of technical terminologies and classifications as appropriate for the proper completion of job duties. Follow policies and procedures outlined for the hospital, department and Nutrition Lab.
Perform miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications
Education
High school diploma (Required)
Degree or coursework in nutrition or further education in clinical/medical field (Preferred)
Experience
At least 6 months of previous experience in food preparation or clinical patient care (Preferred)
One or two years of equivalent customer service related experience (Preferred)
Special Skills
Ability to read, understand and exhibit basic mathematical skills (Required)
Ability to understand and interpret basic medical terminologies (Required)
Ability to use computer software (Required)
Ability to read, comprehend and write English (Required)
Strong analytical, planning, organizational skills and time management ability (Required)
Additional Requirements
Food Handler’s Certificate administered by an ANSI-Accredited provider (ServSafe certificate preferred) (Required)
