Registered Nurse - Pediatric Endocrinology - RN

Responsibilities
Location: Mayo Building - Ambulatory Pediatric Endocrinology Division.

The Pediatric Endocrinology RN provides essential nursing support to a highly complex and medically vulnerable patient population. In this ambulatory practice, RNs deliver patient and family education, communicate test results, manage symptoms, coordinate long‑term care needs, and provide continuity of care for patients with chronic endocrine conditions. The role spans both ambulatory and inpatient settings, including inpatient new‑onset diabetes education, and supports patients with Type I and Type II diabetes, bone and metabolic disorders, weight management concerns, gender dysphoria, and pituitary and adrenal insufficiency.

The RN is responsible for comprehensive nursing assessments, proactive care planning, coordination with local and community providers, close monitoring of laboratory results, and delivery of detailed disease‑specific education to optimize disease management, prevent complications, and support positive patient and family outcomes.

Additionally, the RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, providing leadership through preceptor roles, mentoring, and quality improvement efforts. Responsibilities also include delegating patient care based on skill level, exercise fiscal accountability, and participating in committees or projects.

This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

Graduate of a nursing program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). One year of RN experience required.

All entry‑level associate degree RNs who started after April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited program within five years of RN start date.

No new graduates. Two years of pediatric nursing experience preferred. Diabetes experience preferred. Certified Diabetes Educator / Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDE/CDCDS) preferred. Experience with program coordination preferred. Knowledge of pediatric population characteristics and desired outcomes essential.

The RN must provide excellent communication skills, work independently alongside physicians, adapt to unpredictable situations, demonstrate leadership, effective communication, and critical thinking. Computer skills required; experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Additional Qualifications: Obtain CDE/CDCDS within 3 years and meet 15 hours of diabetes education annually while maintaining certification.

One year of professional RN experience required.

License and Certification (must obtain prior to start date): Current RN license per state requirements; BLS certification valid for 90 days post‑start date. Additional state licensure or specialty certification as required by the work area.

Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

Compensation: $35.84 - $58.84 per hour, with a compensation model that rewards experience, education, and dedication.

Schedule: Full time (Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM, 8‑hour shifts, no holidays).

Weekend schedule: None; International assignment: No.
