Position: School Social Worker in Student Support Services.
Job Summary: The School Social Worker will report directly to the Director of Special Education and Social Work Coordinator. As a master’s level practitioner, the role focuses on improving student academic outcomes through supporting the social‑emotional well‑being of students, assisting teachers and administration, and linking families to community resources. The position includes work across all three tiers of Response to Intervention (MTSS), providing service delivery, crisis response, and data‑driven planning.
Responsibilities
IEP writing: provide social/emotional evaluations, write present levels of performance, and develop data‑driven measurable IEP goals.
Collaborate as an IEP team member in meetings and service delivery, ensuring child and family support throughout the IEP process.
Deliver social work services as specified by the IEP.
Write Functional Behavior Assessments for students in the MDR process.
Social Work at the Intensive level (Tier 3)
Provide crisis response and threat assessment for students in critical need.
Support students below the 10th percentile.
Offer confidential individual social work services.
Lead Wraparound plans and serve on the CORE Problem Solving and Individual Problem Solving Teams.
Develop and monitor Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
Perform comprehensive formal and informal ecological assessments covering academic, social‑emotional, mental health, adaptive, and family/community interactions.
Act as a community liaison, ensuring access to appropriate resources for students and families.
Assist in processing discipline referrals and managing 504 plans centered on social‑emotional needs.
Create social stories for individual students as needed.
Social Work at the Secondary level (Tier 2)
Serve on the Targeted Systems Team, interpreting behavior and specifying needed supports.
Use building data systems to develop skill‑based social work groups for identified and screened students.
Conduct social‑emotional and behavioral needs assessments and monitor student progress.
Act as liaison to families, community, and stakeholders, maintaining communication.
Coordinate delivery of educational and mental health services with community agencies.
Educate team members on mental health and behavioral concerns of identified students.
Create social stories for targeted groups when appropriate.
Social Work at the Universal level (Tier 1)
Consult on program development, implementation, and evaluation of district‑wide educational and behavioral initiatives.
Lead universal psychosocial prevention programs and related screenings (e.g., SOS Grades 6‑12, SSBD Grades 1‑6, Erin’s Law, bully prevention, and social skills building).
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge through district meetings and trainings, and manage legally mandated records.
Qualifications
Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educators License or Emergency Short‑Term Approval for School Support Personnel.
