
Unit Secretary/Telemetry Monitor Tech

Summary
The Telemetry Monitor Technician – Unit Secretary at AMG Specialty Hospital – Northwest Indiana is responsible for interpreting cardiac rhythm strips and maintaining accurate patient records. The role requires continuous rhythm monitoring, timely reporting to nursing staff, and coordination with medical personnel.
Responsibilities
Accurately interprets cardiac rhythm strips every 4 hours, including rate, rhythm, PR interval, QRS, QT, and signature.
Reports changes in patient rhythm to Primary Care Nurse and posts rhythm changes in patient records.
Documents arrhythmias and changes on report sheets and provides a complete report to incoming technicians.
Operates monitor, speaker, and phone systems, including emergency calls during code events.
Tracks monitored patients continuously and maintains updated patient labels and rhythm sheets.
Maintains nutritional supplies, counts prior to ordering, and manages pre-set par limits.
Provides indirect patient care in the medical‑surgical setting, meeting communication needs of patients, families, and staff.
Prepares and compiles unit records, initiates directions from physicians and nursing staff, and participates in quality improvement activities.
Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, nursing, and hospital policies and standards.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
Successful completion of Basic EKG Monitoring Course.
Prior rhythm interpretation experience and experience as a Telemetry Technician preferred.
Knowledge of monitoring equipment and medical terminology.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Basic computer knowledge.
