Overview
Job Summary

Under supervision, incumbents typically audit accounts, prepare and complete third party claims for electronic/hard copy submission; identify and post payments to individual accounts; perform patients billing; balance accounts; identify, prepare and apply contractual allowances; initiate telephone inquiries to identify payments and remittances; photocopy various billing documents; update on-line patient account system; review patient correspondence to determine if self-pay accounts may be billable; and establish liability accounts. Provide clerical support, this would include scanning, distribution of incoming and outgoing correspondence and reports. Knowledge of commercial payers and workers comp. Review/Research, Bill, collect, audit, appeal and adjust patient accounts for Medi-Cal Capitated/Managed Medi-Cal plans using Epic System.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience

Experience Billing and Collection for Medi-Cal and Managed Medi-Cal payors.

Experience analyzing and interpreting various government payer regulations to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the regulations.

Knowledge of Medical Terminology, ICD 10, HCPCS/CPT codes. Ability to use computer technology effectively to perform billing functions as well as to navigate through the World Wide Web to obtain eligibility, benefits, claim status and upload requested data. Basic bookkeeping skills to effectively adjust accounts.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Epic, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook

Ability to interpret payments, correspondence and denials from insurance companies, agencies and other departments. Knowledge of and demonstrated skill with various spreadsheet and software applications including Microsoft Excel and Word, Clearinghouse, Contract Management and Patient Accounting Systems.

Department Overview
Patient Financial Services (PFS) manages revenue cycle functions including DNFB, billing, contract management, insurance follow-up, charge audit, denials, underpayments as well as internal operational and functional reporting and support related to hospital/facility billing. PFS ensures account information contains accurate and comprehensive data to provide timely billing and optimal reimbursement for services rendered. PFS impacts processes to include charge capture, coding, insurance identification, data/charge entry, registration, authorizations, billing, payment posting, refund processing and collections.

Department Specific Job Scope
Billing and Collection for Managed Medi-Cal payors - Review and audit hospital charges, match payments to charges using Remittance Advice, determine reason for denials, search for supporting documentation, compose appeal letters, resolve claim edits, determine appropriate payor/plan based on insurance type, authorization, service provided and financial risk.
