Description
UCSD Department of Psychiatry, Neurocognition of Stress and Anxiety Research Laboratory and Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders Research Center, is investigating digital cognitive training paired with fMRI in psychiatric populations. The Lab Assistant will support routine data collection, maintenance, and preprocessing for behavioral, cognitive, and fMRI data, as well as conduct assessments, set up and record fMRI sessions, recruit and enroll participants, and manage study data.

Responsibilities

Assist with routine tasks associated with data collection and quality data acquisition in lab and clinic settings.

Organize and maintain test records for subjects, including survey, cognitive, and fMRI data.

Preprocess data for scoring and statistical analyses.

Conduct survey‑based assessments and standardized interviews.

Assist in fMRI set‑up and recording sessions.

Recruit and enroll human subjects, including distributing flyers and scheduling appointments.

Perform progress check‑ins and assist with study data organization and management.

Provide other support tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High‑school graduation or General Education Diploma plus one year of laboratory experience, OR two years of college with courses in experimental biology, psychology, cognitive science, or related areas.

Familiarity with behavioral paradigm techniques in a research setting.

Excellent interpersonal skills and appropriate interview techniques, diplomacy, confidentiality.

Highly self‑motivated, reliable, able to solve problems independently and creatively.

Strong organizational, scheduling, and record‑keeping skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality per regulatory requirements.

Experience interacting effectively with co‑workers.

Strong communication skills.

Experience managing test records for survey, cognitive, and fMRI data.

Experience recruiting subjects through flyers and enrolling participants from clinics and Research Match.

Preferred Qualifications

General computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar.

Experience in scientific presentations and manuscript writing.

Special Conditions

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Must be flexible and willing to work overtime, weekends, and evenings as needed.

Pay Transparency
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,766 - $62,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $25.75 - $30.17.

Vaccination Requirements
Compliance with UC's Vaccination Program policies may be required. Life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment. Online‑only certification is not acceptable.
