Dietary Aide

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183‑bed acute care and residential facility in Petersburg, Virginia. We provide behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through acute programs, adolescent residential programs, and programs for active duty military.

The Culinary Cook performs a wide variety of tasks and operations to prepare and cook foods for patients, employees, and others; stocks and serves on tray line; assists with dish washing and cleaning operations; stocks storage areas and freezers; assists with inventories. The Cook follows standard practice and procedures and complies with hospital department, regulatory, and food service industry requirements for quality and sanitation. The Cook correctly identifies patient groups and strives to exceed expectations. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Position Requirements:

High school education or GED required

Valid driver’s license strongly preferred

ServSafe certification preferred

Institutional cooking experience preferred

Must be able to meet physical requirements

General Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services

Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm

Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

Basic clerical skills, experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)

Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions

Ability to problem‑solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions

Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
