ITG Communications is hiring a Fiber Splicer II in Indianapolis. IN
The Fiber Splicer II supports underground fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) construction crews by placing fiber cable in conduit and performing advanced fusion splicing of fiber optic distribution cables into enclosures. This role is an experienced, production-level position responsible for high-quality splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation while upholding company safety standards.
Responsibilities
Perform fusion splicing of fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon fiber, with demonstrated ability on high-count ribbon fiber (864-count or higher).
Construct, install, and dress fiber splice enclosures, termination panels, and related plant equipment when applicable.
Operate and interpret results from technical equipment including OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and related testing tools.
Troubleshoot, maintain, and resolve fiber signal and performance issues in the field.
Read and interpret work prints, splice diagrams, and existing fiber records (maps and field documentation).
Accurately read splice and test results and provide timely, complete reports to the office and project teams.
Lift, position, and manipulate splice enclosures and plant materials safely.
Support and, when required, help direct construction crew activities related to fiber placement and splicing.
Maintain a safe, organized worksite and actively uphold the company’s safety values and OSHA standards.
Work independently or with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.
Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
Advanced-level position requiring 5+ years of fiber splicing experience
Demonstrated hands-on experience with loose tube and ribbon fiber splicing, including high-count fibers
Proven experience in OSP fiber deployment, testing, repair, and troubleshooting
Experience managing or directing construction crews preferred
Key Measures / Key Performance Indicators:
Accuracy and quality of fiber splicing and testing results
Timely completion of assigned splicing and reporting tasks
Compliance with safety, OSHA, and company policies
Proper documentation and communication with office and field teams
Minimal rework or service-impacting errors
Exposure
Regular exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind
Frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, mud, uneven terrain, and roadside work zones
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and vehicular traffic
Work performed in handholes, vaults, manholes, and other confined or restricted spaces
Exposure to high or precarious places, fumes, dust, and airborne particles
Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock
Noise levels in the work environment are frequently loud and require hearing protection
Factors critical to success at ITG Communications for this position:
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet production deadlines
Technical proficiency with fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting equipment
Clear communication with construction crews, supervisors, and office teams
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, twist, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
Physically active role requiring prolonged standing and movement
