PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS

Pay Range: 605NE
Annual Rate: $47,000.88 - $85,503.60
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

SELECTION PROCESS INFORMATION

Applicants are required to complete an online typing test at the time of application. A minimum of 45 words per minute is required.
The Criteria testing platform is web-based. For an optimal experience, use up-to-date versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.

JOB SUMMARY

This Legal Secretary I position is located in the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Municipal Counselor and is under the supervision of the Criminal Justice Division Head. The employee uses computers, standard office software, and other equipment to produce and edit legal documents, correspondence, memorandums and reports; must be proficient in proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Specific knowledge of legal terminology, document formatting, document editing, file organization, and law office practices is essential but may be acquired after assuming the position. The Legal Secretary I must provide administrative support to the Division’s attorneys and effectively and professionally communicate with City officials, outside attorneys, vendors, members of the public, police officers, and employees within the office. The employee must maintain confidentiality and work under pressure and independently. Additional duties may be assigned as required by the Division Head. All positions within this office serve under the direction of the Municipal Counselor and may be assigned to another division based on the needs of the office.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled environment; may involve long periods of sitting, standing, or using a telephone.

Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Working hours vary and may include earlier start times, later end times, weekends, or holidays based on duties and location.

OTHER DETAILS

Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.

Background Investigation, Drug Testing, Physical Examination: Upon a conditional offer of employment, the City of Oklahoma City will conduct a criminal history background check. Applicants will be provided contact information for third-party reporting agencies. If applicable, a Motor Vehicle Report may be obtained. If safety sensitive or driving, drug testing policy and CJIS/Level 4 security requirements may apply. A copy of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Procedure is available.
If the position includes a cyber security sensitivity, a CJIS background check and Level 4 Security Awareness Training may apply.
If the position includes a lift/push/pull/carry requirement of 25 pounds or greater, a physical examination may be required.
