Lee County is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Technician to support and maintain the County's Geographic Information System (GIS). This position plays an important role in managing mapping data, supporting county departments, maintaining parcel maps, and assisting with land records and property transfers. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments. Essential Functions
Maintain and update GIS databases, maps, and spatial data layers
Assist with daily operations supporting the County GIS program
Review legal descriptions, deeds, surveys, and plats for property transfers and parcel updates
Maintain cadastral parcel maps, including parcel splits, combinations, subdivisions, annexations, and parcel identification number (PIN) changes
Support farmland assessments by maintaining FARMS data and land use layers
Create maps, reports, and visualizations for county departments and public requests
Assist with web-based GIS applications and online mapping tools
Perform quality control to ensure GIS data accuracy and consistency
Support field data collection using GPS and mobile GIS tools
Operate GIS-related equipment such as large-format plotters and scanners
Attend GIS trainings and regional meetings to stay current with industry technology and best practices
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, Computer Science, or related field ( Bachelor's degree preferred )
Experience with GIS software, especially ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise
Knowledge of cadastral mapping, parcel maintenance, and legal descriptions preferred
Familiarity with coordinate systems, PLSS, COGO, and GIS quality control processes
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Strong communication and customer service skills
Experience with local government GIS operations is a plus
Preferred experience & knowledge includes:
ArcGIS Experience Builder, Web AppBuilder, Dashboards, and StoryMaps
E911/NG911 GIS data maintenance
Water and wastewater GIS data maintenance
Python scripting, Arcade, or GIS automation workflows
Salary Range
$50,000 - $60,000 based on qualifications and experience
Schedule
This is a full-time position with standard Monday through Friday business hours. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on project needs.
